Oops, I Did It Again

I gained .2 pounds this week from last week's weigh in, oops! I'm sure it had nothing to do with the fact that I felt kinda lazy this week, or the fact that I made quite a few treats, or the fact that I ate out more than I should have, and especially not because of the 5 halves of mini desserts that Linda and I devoured at Olive Garden. I'm trying not to be too hard on myself though, I feel like I still have made great progress overall.

I have been really pondering on my past lately, thinking about how my self esteem used to be. I now realize that I made fun of myself about my weight, or hair, or clothes, so that no one else would have to. It's pretty sad when I think about it.

Having children has changed my life in so many ways, one way is how I speak about myself in front of Alison and Matthew. I want them to grow up with a great self-esteem, so I have become forced to be a good example of that. I find it kind of ironic that every year, I am "celebrated" on mother's day, but really, I should be the one to celebrate my children, because they are the reason I am a mother, and a better one each day because of what they teach me.

A Picture Perfect Moment

We went for a Sunday afternoon stroll up in the Ramsey Canyon Preserve and was able to catch the kids having a cute moment. I am so blessed to have two wonderful kids. They have their moments, but they both have wonderful little spirits!

We had Alison's birthday party on Tuesday, a day before her actual birthday, and it went really well. We had streamers, a pinata and a lot of fun! Grandma S. and Grandma and Grandpa A. were able to come, which made the day even that much more special. I can't believe Alison is four, she is growing up before my very eyes. Some days I feel like she falls behind the curve acting like Matthew, and then there are days when I am so amazed at how smart she is, and how she has the memory of an elephant! She even corrected Dave's grammer tonight, pretty funny! She is excited to start preschool this fall, she wants to go now, but I have to remind her that she has to wait. It will be good for her to be in a school setting even though it will be at someone's home. There are days when she is the best big sister a boy could ask for, and then there are days when she acts like a 4 year old sister and they yell at each other until I intervene. I love the screaming contests, they're my favorite:(

I love my little princess so much and can't wait to see what the next year of her life brings.

Why I Love My Mom

I just wanted to post the top 10 reasons why I love my mom:

10. She gave birth to me and didn't give me away during my teenage years.
9. She is ALWAYS thinking of others before herself.
8. She always finds the good in people even when it's difficult for everyone else.
7. She loves to serve others and celebrate others instead of celebrate herself.
6. She makes the best apple pie and buns/bread in the world.
5. She listens to me whine and complain and gives good advice when needed.
4. She loves her Savior and works hard to live her life like him.
3. She is the best example of how to love unconditionally.
2. She is the hardest worker I know.
1. She loves me for who I am and doesn't judge me when I go down the wrong the path, and who couldn't love someone like that!!

So, on another note, I had a fabulous day! Got to sleep in, work a bit to clean the house so I could have GREAT friends over to eat yummy green chili burros, seven layer dip, and scrumptious coconut cream pie. I am so grateful to be a mom even if I am not the best one. I love my kids so much and wouldn't change being a mom for ANYTHING!

When it's springtime in the desert

I am always amazed at how bad allergies can be in the desert. I love a gentle breeze that comes by and cools off the house, but the crazy wind we get here in Sierra Vista is quite rediculous! However, I love the spring, it has become my new favorite season. I love watching the leaves sprout on the tree and bring back the green I long for, even watching the ever so evil mesquite trees turn green is a good thing. I think I am looking at this year a little differently, with a little more love, a little more gratitude in my heart. Even though I still loathe living out of our little town, I am glad we have a house to live in. Here's to shedding a few more pounds and this house ;) Too bad I can't have my flowers too, the silly little wretched mice eat them all :(

Parker Lake, September 2009, Dave took Alison for a boat ride...she fell asleep! Getting our feet wet in the lake

So the story here is this, we are driving down the 202 loop in Phoenix when all of a sudden we heard a THUMP! When we got out, we saw that a bird had hit the side of the van and had left his impression on us, literaly! You can see where it's eyes are.

Rough Week

So I am going to whine, but only for a moment. This week has been quite trying. It started on Wednesday, got Al and I out to the car and down the street when I heard water dripping, only to turn and find Alison had emptied her once full sippy cup of water all over her pants, turned around and had to go back home. On the road again, went to Target where Alison had a major meltdown when she saw the Peanut Butter M&M's go down the conveyor belt, and not in her mouth, refused to eat lunch until she had some. Off to the park we went, had fun, no trauma...I thought. Got Alison to the babysitters house and on to work where I realized that I didn't have my cell phone. Panicked all afternoon. A lady called and left a message on our answering machine at home saying she found my phone and told us where she would hide it. Okay ending to a crazy day.

Then Saturday came. I woke up not feeling 100%, apparently got a stomach bug or food poisoning, either way it was not good. About 12:00 I got violently ill and Dave took me to the ER where I was told I had acid reflux and maybe a stomach bug, I just love Sierra Vista Regional Health Center. Anyway, I'm on the mend now.

Alison started off the week eating horribly, but seems to be recovering now. We have her on a more strict eating schedule, which seems to be helping. I'm just ready to go bed for a couple of days.

Okay, I'm done whining, time to take the zucchini bread out of the oven.

Part-Timer!!!!!

Yee haw and call me skippy. Monday started a whole new chapter in my life called part time secretary, part time mommy/homemaker. It's a be-a-utiful thing! I can't even begin to express the joy I have felt this week being able to spend my day watching Alison grow, doing laundry and watching Disney channel all day, it really is a dream come true;-) Plus I get to take a nap now and then...just don't tell Dave. But seriously, I feel like a whole new person. Now all I need is a few more kids and I'll be living the crazy life. Fluff and fold is calling.

Halloween

The New Do

First I get new glasses, although not by choice, then I get a new hair cut. What's next you ask? Who knows, maybe a whole new wardrobe:)

Aloha Maui

Why the scared look you say? See that tiny plane in the background...that is what we flew to Maui in, talk about a nail biter. No bueno, but we arrived safely.
The convertible rental car...a lofty expenditure that was worth it! Loved it, although by the end of the trip, I don't know if it loved us! By this point, we knew that Maui was definitely going to be the relaxing part of our trip.
This is our beach, our wonderful sunny, warm beach were Dave and I snorkled and enjoyed the scenery. And I ain't talkin' about the two bikini ladies either.
A walk around the place, it was gorgeous.
At dinner down in Lahaina, check out my new specs, aren't they groovy? NOT! I don't like them although everyone else seems to. And no, we are not liquored, just happy:)

A good lasting impression of our trip, a beautiful sunset on Napili Beach. It was great, next time though, we're bringing Alison, 8 days was TOO LONG!

The Road to Hana

Can you say Jurassic Park?

Sunday comes and we go to Hana. We leave at around 7:30am, thinking that will give us plenty of time to get up there...we thought a three hour tour.
Until we saw the roads going around the North side of the island. Luckily we only had to pass a few cars on the way, it was crazy! But we arrived in Hana about 1:30pm, 5 hours later. We took the hike at the Seven Sacred Pools to see the waterfalls & stuff. This one is called Wailea Falls.
Another stop along the way across a bridge, talk about green!
Then it was through the bamboo forest, never seen anything like it in my life. Bamboo 30 feet high, and THICK! Too bad we forgot our glasses, got kinda dark with the 'ol sunglasses on.

Our final destination, Waimouku Falls, 400 ft drop down a sheer cliff. It was breathtaking. Dave got within about 10 ft of it, hoping a rock didn't come crashing over the edge and nail him on the forehead.

We got back to the car about 5:30 pm thinking that we didn't want to take the windy road back to Kahilui, so we took the south road which had just reopened. Talk about rural, most of the road was dirt, just as windy, and it was dark. Poor little rental car, the shocks had to be tired. Then we finally hit the "highway", a two lane road about 30' wide. We thought we were home free, until the cows showed up, who also use the "highway" as their trail.
Back to the hotel by 10:30pm...we decided that one trip to Hana is enough in a lifetime.

Aloha Oahu

We flew into Honolulu and started our trip by going to the zoo across from our hotel where we found some animals and very large colorful trees.

Because of the time difference we woke up BEFORE the sun came up and took a walk around Waikiki. We were so amazed at the shrubbery that we had to take a pic.

Tuesday afternoon and evening we went to the Polynesian Cultural Center which was awesome. This is me enjoying my strawberry smoothie at our Luau.
On Wednesday we went to Pearl Harbor and saw the USS Arizona Memorial and a cool submarine. Us on the top of the submarine.

The last night on Oahu and I broke my glasses, tried to fix 'em, but it didn't quite turn out like I thought it would.

Had to get some cute pics of Alison up. I am a horrible blogger, but someday I'll get better! I love this little bouncy horse. When she is more stable, we can take it off of the base and she can use it like a pogo type aparatus. I might have to take a turn ;)

Love this picture, what a doll! She likes to carry the balloon in her mouth by the nub because that is how the dog carries the balloons around. And yes, we washed off the balloon before she put it in her mouth.

We went hiking up in the Ramsey Canyon preserve and caught some cute pictures of Alison meandering.

Summer Fun

We went to Rose Canyon Lake outside of Tucson in late May, she loved the lake, and it was gorgeous! Who knew there were such gems in Tucson!

Hopefully I will keep on the blog better. Time goes by so quick I don't even realize that it's been two months since I've posted anything. Oh well, such is my life.

Highlights of April

April came and went quickly, but we had a great time in Prescott when I had to go to the Arizona Building Official Conference. Here are some highlights.

10 Things I've Learned As a Mom

10. Your finger will always fit perfectly up your nose
9. You can "spray" pureed peas at least five feet
8. Carpet fuzz looks much larger and appetizing when you're six inches from the ground
7. If at first you don't succeed, cry, cry again
6. It only takes one blink to stuff a fist full of dirt in your mouth
5. Cheerios found on the floor are much more appetizing than the ones on your tray
4. It's much more entertaining to watch the dog eat your lunch, than eat it yourself
3. It's entirely impossible to sit still long enough while having your diaper changed
2. After diaper wrestling, I could compete in the calf roping event...and be a contender!!
And the number 1 thing I've learned as a mom:
It is not possible to love a child and all her quirks too much!

Child Labor Laws???

I took little Alison into work after a doctor's appointment, thought I would get her started early on learning how to file. As you can see, she is already taking after me, playing around instead of working!!! Poor little lamb had to get her blood taken as part of her nine month check-up, she was NOT happy! The down part of being a mom is having to see your child endure pain and not understand why.

Quick, run away before she makes me answer the phones!!!!!!! Really though, she enjoys being outdoors too much to work inside a stinky ol' office. She's my cutie pa-tootie!!!!

February...Where did it Go?

It seems like yesterday was February 1st!! February flew by for us, between Dave being gone on a business trip, us taking a trip to Phoenix for the long weekend, and ALL of us getting sick, we blinked and it was gone. Guess we'll have to look forward to what March will hold. For me, this was the month to figure out all about ORGANIZATION. My life is one giant pile, and I've had enough. I hope I learned something from the class I took. Here's to a more tidy March!!

The life of the Seitz's

Merry Christmas, Happy New and all that jazz! The holidays came and went. What's going in our world these days? Well, Alison can now stand up pretty good all on her own, and now wants to practice walking...all the time! Can we say back ache? She refuses to crawl...I guess she thinks it's pretty animalistic, so walking it is. We tried showing her how to crawl, which we got a "are you crazy?" look. We are hoping that maybe her cousins, Emma, Dylan and Lauren can show her the ropes when they come next week...YIPEE! We love visits from the cousins! I'm not sure how we managed two visits in less than a year, but we must have done something right:) Alison also has one tooth, so we are on our way to solid chunky foods. Well, my three minutes are up Alison says, so TTFN!

O Christmas Tree

Ah, the smell of fresh pine in the air, it has been so long! We decided on a real tree this year, and it's wonderful! I truly love this season. We didn't go chop it down ourselves, but that's okay, you never know when you are going to run into one of those nazzi tree-hugger types! Alison is still a little timid of it, I think she wonders why there is a tree in the house, but she is slowly getting used to it I think.

I have been a very bad blogger for not posting something in a LONG time, so I am including lots of pictures to make up for it!

Alison just keeps changing every day, it's unbelievable. It's a good thing we take a LOT of pictures.

She is doing so good sitting up all by herself now, until she gets tired, then she just topples over like a stack of blocks. Don't worry though,

there are always pillows surrounding her:) This is her at Grandma Seitz's house over Thanksgiving weekend, she loves her carpet!

Life is pretty crazy with Christmas coming up. Valerie, we had a blast at Thanksgiving. Thanks for letting me join the fun with shopping on Black Friday, next year I won't shower or wear lip gloss, I promise! We are so very blessed with all of the wonderful family we have!

It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown!

Okay, so I bought the cutest banana outfit for Alison, and I go to put it on her, and it no longer fits!!! The child is growing faster than the weeds in the front yard, and that's fast! So, there Dave and I were, scrounging to find another costume last minute. We're at Tucson mall a couple weeks back, we round the corner, and there gleaming through the front window of Old Navy, was the cutest pumpkin ever, AND it was already 50% off. Guess we lucked out:)

As you can see by the thrilled look on her face, she loved the outfit! She'll appreciate it later, right? Yes, I dressed up as Snow White...Brinkley, great princesses think alike;-) I tried to get Dave to dress up as one of the seven dwarfs, but no. Instead he rigged a third eye to his glasses and went as a tri-clops. We tried to go to the trunk-r-treat, but of course by the time we got there, the last two cars were driving away. $25 worth of candy, and an empty parking lot...just my luck. So, we went to the mall to show off the punkin'. Dave has got to be the most proud papa ever, it was so cute to see him struttin' down the mall. Next year, we're arriving at the church at 4 :45 (15 minutes early), in hopes of handing out candy.

So, here I sit, with $25 in candy, a few pounds heavier I'm sure, and I didn't even have to work for it. I love Halloween!

Thank My Lucky Stars

October has been filled with hikes, building decks, quick trips to Phoenix, and fun, fun, fun. We hiked down by the San Pedro River, which was awesome! We got to try out our new baby back pack, and Alison loved it!

Have any of you ever been so awed at life, wondering how you got where you are, and how blessed you are? That is how I have been feeling lately, and feeling truly blessed! Even with life being so crazy and stressful at times, I have to take a step back and think of all the wonderful things I've been given. This last year has had so many wonderful things happen. It's weird that for nine years it was just two, and then all of a sudden, it's three. But the funny thing is, it feels like it's been that way forever! I just can't imagine life any other way. I thank my lucky stars for the most incredible husband ever, and for this little bundle straight from heaven! It's a great day to be alive:)

My how time flies, should have posted something a long time ago! Here are some recent pics of Ali and friends. We had our friends, Michelle and Eleanor come to visit us from Washington D.C., and had so much fun! Alison loves her bath time, and her Auntie Cyndi bought her her very own towels, which she loves! They are so cuddly & cozy. The last picture we took while BBQing last week while we still have pretty enjoyable weather. Her new thing these days is taking anything within reach and banging it on anything she can, she loves noise! She's also sitting up on her own pretty good. She seams to do better with dad, and then mom comes along and she gets so excited to show her how she's a big girl and topples over:) We can't believe how fast time flies, and how much she has grown. We finally got the clue to cut her hair when the cashier at K-Mart says,"Oh what a cute mohawk". After wanting to strangle the lady, and counting to ten, we calmly smiled, and got out the clippers. So, at least her hair is all one length, and she won't disown us later in life when she's how she had the mohawk/combover do. We are excited about Halloween coming up, and can't wait to get all gussied up. We, Alison and I, have decided to be matching banana's. She loves banana's, I'm a Jana Banana, it just works :) So, stay tuned for cute pictures come the beginning of November. p.s. Millions of Peaches, Peaches for Me

Dave, Alison and I went to Apple Annie's Orchard and Farms on the 24th, and had so much fun. We picked lots of peaches and apples at the orchard and then went over to the farm and got corn and zuccini. Despite the fact that it was rather warm, and the flies were out of control, it was still pretty cool. I think Alison will appreciate it more when she's older.

Then the fun began when we got home cuz we had 20 lbs of peaches, 30 lbs of apples, 3 doz. ears of corn and zuccini to deal with. Luckily we got most of it perserved in different forms. I think next year, we'll just take a trip to the grocery store :-)

Can you believe she is three months old already! Weighing in at 11 lbs, she is definitely filling out! Grandma Anderson was able to come down to help out while Jana went back to work, and it sure has been fun! We definitely wear her out by the end of the day, poor little lamb. August has been a busy month so far with Jana fighting to go back to work, one grandma leaving for California, and another grandma coming in to help. We celebrated our ninth anniversary, and next week we get to take grandma and grandpa A. to the orchards to do some apple and peach pickin'. We'll definitely post some pictures of the adventure. Boy is Alison growing up, she has changed so much in the last week, it's crazy! She is definitely our little sweetheart :-)

Canada, what can I say? WHAT A BLAST! Thanks to Mom & Dad who started this crazy family and stayed married for 50 years:-) So we (all 42 of us) rented a lodge near Waterton National Park in Alberta Canada for almost a week, and what fun. Highlights...well there was Waterton of course, which included a hike up Bear's Hump, of which Jana only got half way before calling it quits. Dave and Alison continued on for awhile longer, but succumbed to the steep climb. Then there was the hike around the Cameron Lake area (still in Waterton) where we got to see a momma & baby moose, and lots of fun fishing and enjoying the amazing views.

Then there was the "Ode to the Cause" night in which Jason treated us to a DVD of pictures put to music, using his amazing talents at editing & creating. Then there was talent night...can I just say that I truly have the most talented family ever! Between the singing, piano playing, and other odd talents, we laughed and definitely cried the night away. We can't forget about water balloon volleyball, and the croquet games!

Then there was Montana...always entertaining! Alison was blessed by her grandpa Anderson at Aunt Donna's house, and had most of her family there, which will be a memory we won't forget. Then of course there was the baseball game, (Alison loved watching the game with grandma) and the family games of croquet, frisbee and soccer. We are so blessed to have such an awesome family, and we miss them so!

Fourth of July

Decked out in our patriotic attire, we headed off the Staples parking lot to watch the famous Sierra Vista fireworks. Maybe not the most comfortable we've ever been on the fourth, but it was actually a good view! Alison didn't see too much of it, but we were there together, that's got to count for something, right???

When the West Was Won

In June, we were so excited to have Cyndi, Emma, Dylan and Lauren come to visit us for a couple weeks, and what a fun filled two weeks it was! We had a blast going to the "Cove", Sierra Vista's public pool, the park, Bisbee, Karchner Caverns, and Tombstone were we took our awesome picture. We just hope that they come and visit us again, maybe in the winter time when it's not so blasted hot!! We love and miss you guys!

First There Was Two, and Then One More

The joy of our lives, the one we had been praying for, and most importantly, the head of the family, Alison Dorene Seitz. Born May 18, 2007 at 12:13 am weighing in at 7lbs 6oz and 20 1/2" tall. What a cutie! Life was rough at first, but once she got the hang of it, it was all uphill from there!
